About the Role
Reporting to the Crisis Support Manager, and as a key member of the Crisis Support team at Hutt Valley Sexual Abuse Support and Healing (HV SASH), you will provide specialist crisis support and court support services for victims and their families/whānau affected by sexual abuse, rape, or sexual harm.
HV SASH are seeking a dedicated and empathetic individual to deliver specialist support and advocacy to clients (victims) and families/whānau. The ideal candidate is compassionate, resilient and confident working in sensitive, high-pressure situations. You will work closely with a dedicated and skilled team to respond to client needs, facilitate referrals, and contribute to the HV SASH team.

What you’ll do
Some of the accountabilities include:
*Communicating and meeting with clients and family/whānau via phone and in-person, gathering information, and providing relevant information, guidance and options to help them make informed choices
- Supporting victims through forensic medical examinations, police reporting processes, and preparation of victim impact statements
- Supporting victims and their families/whānau with court preparation and attendance at court trials (full training provided)
- Referring clients to other services or government departments as required Working closely with key agencies such as Police, Oranga Tamariki, GPs, DHBs, Victim Support, refuges, etc
What we’re looking for:
- Experience working in a frontline customer service or client-facing role
- Experience working in mental health or social services, or crisis support would be highly advantageous
- An effective communicator with well-developed written, verbal and listening skills
- Ability to work in a culturally responsive manner and relate to a diverse range of people from all walks of life and backgrounds
- Highly intuitive and sensitive to others needs
- Able to remain calm and effective in a high-pressure, sensitive environment
- Good self-care practices, with good boundaries and self-awareness
- Ability to work collaboratively with others and contribute as part of wider team
- Have a respectful, compassionate, patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
- Ability to remain professional, confidential and impartial at all times
- Must have a full and clean NZ Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable car
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word & Outlook) and comfortable using databases
- Experience working with people affected sexual abuse, rape, or sexual harm would be highly advantageous but not essential.

Established in 1982, Hutt Valley Sexual Abuse Support and Healing (HV SASH) provides free 24/7 crisis support and counselling services for anyone of any age, gender, ethnicity or sexuality affected by sexual abuse, rape or sexual harm. HV SASH supports Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt communities.
This is a permanent, full-time position (37.5 hours per week), Monday to Friday, based in Waterloo, Lower Hutt. HV SASH is offering a starting salary of up to $65,286 per annum ($33.48/hour). The role also includes on-the-job training and ongoing professional development, monthly paid clinical supervision, a mobile phone and laptop, as well as free off-street parking.
