About the Role Hutt Valley Sexual Abuse Support and Healing (HV SASH), has a dedicated 24/7 after hours on-call crisis support services, and due to growing demands, they are now seeking Crisis Support Workers to join their After Hours team to cover some of the following shifts:
- Monday to Thursday, 6pm – 8am
- Friday night, 6pm – 9am
- Weekends and Public Holidays, 9am – 6pm and 6pm – 9am
- Monday to Friday, 4pm – 6pm
Reporting to the Crisis Support Manager, and as a key member of the Crisis Support team at Hutt Valley Sexual Abuse Support and Healing (HV SASH), you will provide specialist crisis support and advocacy services for victims and their families/whānau across Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt communities affected by sexual abuse, rape, or sexual harm.
This is a casual, on-call position, mobilising as needed across the Hutt Valley and Wellington region. HV SASH offers an attractive on-call shift rate, call-out and hourly rates, mileage and parking reimbursement, and a mobile phone. Most importantly, you’ll receive specialised on-the-job training and ongoing peer support to help you succeed in this vital role.

What you’ll do
- Responding to 0800 crisis support calls promptly and providing specialist support to acute and historic victims and family/ whānau
- Advising victims, family/ whānau, referrers on relevant information and options
- Attending call-outs and supporting victim and family/ whānau through forensic medical examinations, police reporting processes, and preparation of victim impact statements, etc
- Referring victims to other services as required
- Working closely with key agencies such as Police, Oranga Tamariki, Victim Support, GPs, hospitals, Victim Support, mental health services, refuges, etc
What we’re looking for:
- Experience working in a frontline customer service or client-facing role
- Experience working in mental health or social services, or crisis support would be highly advantageous
- An effective communicator with strong listening, verbal, and written skills
- Sound judgement, critical thinking and analytical skills
- Ability to work in a culturally responsive manner and relate to a diverse range of people from all walks of life and backgrounds
- Highly intuitive and sensitive to others needs
- Able to remain calm and effective in a high-pressure, sensitive environment
- Good self-care practices, with good boundaries and self-awareness
- Have a respectful, compassionate, patient, resilient, and empathetic approach
- Ability to remain professional, confidential and impartial at all times *Must have a full and clean NZ Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable car
- Experience working with people affected sexual abuse, rape, or sexual harm would be highly advantageous but not essential.

Established in 1982, Hutt Valley Sexual Abuse Support and Healing (HV SASH) provides free 24/7 crisis support and counselling services for anyone of any age, gender, ethnicity or sexuality affected by sexual abuse, rape or sexual harm. HV SASH supports Lower Hutt and Upper Hutt communities.
