We are seeking two experienced Dental Assistants to join our Oral and Maxillofacial Department (OMS) here at Waikato hospital, Hamilton.

About the Role
As a successful Dental Assistant, you will play a key role in assisting our OMS Specialists, Registrars and House Officers with OMS and Dental procedures in our hospital clinics and general anaesthetic settings.
Key responsibilities:
- Perform routine activities to improve oral health for patients under the direction of a registered health processional.
- Complete other tasks and activities to support the functioning of the service.
- Responsible for performing tasks that are outlined in the assistant task list this comprises core and service specific tasks.

About our Service
The Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMS) Department provides a tertiary service to the Central North Island of New Zealand.
Hamilton is a level 1 major trauma centre and one of the largest tertiary teaching hospitals with over 600 inpatient beds and 22 operating theatres. As a member of the Maxillofacial Team, this role has shared accountability for a population of over 900,000. The team consists of four SMOs, three Registrars, four House Officers, one Clinical Nurse Coordinator and two Dental Assistants.
About you
To be effective and succeed in this role it is expected the person will deliver the accountabilities required of the Dental Assistant including meeting the objectives established annually with the line Manager.
Essential:
- NZQA certificate to minimum level 2 or willing to undertake training experience.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to develop rapport with different age groups, in particular children and their parents / caregivers.
- Competency in administration, including literacy and numeracy.
- Ability to multi-tasks and prioritise.
Desired:
- NZRC Core Level 4 certificate or willing to undertake training.
- NZDA Certificate in Dental Assisting or willing to undertake training.
