About the Role

As a Registered Nurse in the Police Liaison Service, you will play a vital role in bridging the gap between emergency services and mental health care. This is a unique opportunity to work at the frontline of mental health and addiction support, providing urgent and non-urgent clinical intervention, assessment, and treatment strategies for individuals referred by Police, Justice, and Emergency Departments.

Our Mental Health Police Liaison Service is a dynamic and responsive team working in partnership with Police and other emergency services. We are committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based care that reflects the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

About you

To thrive in this role, you will be a compassionate and resilient clinician who is confident working in high-pressure environments. You will bring:

  • A current practising certificate with the Nursing Council of New Zealand
  • A relevant graduate and postgraduate qualification
  • Extensive experience (5+ years) in mental health and addictions
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively across agencies and disciplines
  • Strong understanding of Tikanga Maori and Whanau Ora principles
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • A commitment to equity, innovation, and continuous improvement

Desired Attributes:

  • Experience in community mental health, counselling, or DAO roles
  • Advanced IT and documentation skills
  • Preceptorship experience and leadership capability
