About the Role

We are looking for an experienced and inspirational Clinical Nurse Manager to lead the Oncology nursing team at Hawkes Bay Hospital. In this senior role, you will provide both clinical leadership and operational management, ensuring the delivery of safe, highquality and patientcentred care across the oncology service.

You will oversee daytoday operations, support smooth patient pathways, and ensure robust systems are in place to maintain clinical quality, safety and service performance. Your responsibilities include staffing, recruitment, rostering, safestaffing practices, professional development, and fostering a culture of excellence within the nursing and HCA teams.

This role also has strategic influence - supporting the development and enhancement of oncology services, leading change initiatives, managing delegated budgets, ensuring contractual compliance, and contributing to service planning and improvement activities. You will work with a high degree of independence and act as a key decisionmaker within the service.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Youll lead a talented and committed Oncology nursing team, working closely with the Oncology Manager, Director of Nursing, medical specialists, allied health teams, cancer support staff, administration, and the Hospital Group leadership team.

The service has strong connections with regional cancer networks, the MidCentral Regional Cancer Centre, and Te Aho o Te Kahu, providing opportunities for collaboration, innovation and systemwide improvement.

About you

You are an experienced oncology nurse leader who brings integrity, professionalism and a passion for delivering outstanding care. You inspire confidence, build strong relationships and lead with clarity, courage and compassion.

You will have:

  • Current NZ Nursing Council registration and APC
  • A postgraduate nursing qualification (PGDip preferred) and working toward a Clinical Masters
  • 6 to 8 years of recent, relevant clinical experience in oncology or a closely related specialty
  • Strong leadership and teamdevelopment experience
  • Understanding of business and financial principles
  • Knowledge of quality improvement, patient safety, and clinical governance
  • HR and performancemanagement understanding
  • An expertlevel PDRP portfolio
  • Excellent communication and problemsolving skills

Desired:

  • Knowledge of political, legislative and sectorwide drivers impacting oncology
  • Experience leading teams within the health sector or similar complex environments
