About the Role

A career opportunity for two Emergency Department Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) at Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora - Whanganui is now available.

This is a fantastic opportunity to join the emergency department service to enhance health care services for the Whanganui community. You will need to be a forward-thinking person motivated to contribute to a dedicated team.

The CNS position will be part of a multi-disciplinary team assessing and treating people needing care in our emergency department.

The clinical nurse specialist in the emergency department at Whanganui Hospital will provide the following:

  • the provision of effective and efficient care delivered with a high degree of autonomy, to an identified population
  • demonstrate practice that aligns with whanau ora and Maori health models
  • underpins practice with a sound philosophy of nursing and cultural safety
  • operate and expand practice within appropriate theoretical frameworks
  • work collaboratively with medical and nursing teams within the emergency department
  • use advanced judgement, assessment skills, decision-making skills, and diagnostic-reasoning skills to provide urgent care to patients and improve health outcomes
  • evaluate healthcare needs and practice to improve equity and quality
  • innovate and change practice to reflect knowledge of recent developments in nursing, health and research
  • demonstrate effective nursing leadership and participates in scholarly inquiry
  • develop and influence health/socioeconomic policies and nursing practice at local and national level

About you

To be successful in this role, you will have:

  • Current registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand as a Registered Nurse
  • Evidence of completion of a postgraduate qualification (minimum PG Diploma, and a willingness to undertake designated RN prescribing status)
  • At least five years of clinical experience in emergency nursing (recent)
  • Ability to maintain high standards of clinical services, assessment, diagnosis and treatment planning
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development
  • Culturally appropriate and whanau-centered care to clients and their whanau.
