District Nurse Whanganui Hospital, Fixed term (12 months), 0.8FTE

  • We are currently seeking to employ a highly motivated Registered or Enrolled Nurse who has the experience and capabilities for a fixed term position, covering parental leave with the District Nursing Service based at Whanganui Hospital, covering the Whanganui region which includes Waimarino and Rangitikei.
  • This position will provide you with the opportunity to work in partnership with patients and whanau to manage health conditions in the community.
  • Experience in district nursing is desirable but not essential. This is a great opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment within a supportive team. The successful candidate will be required to work both within a clinical and community settings. Hours of work will be rostered over 7 days.

About the Role

This position is based with the Community Health service of Te Whatu Ora Whanganui Hospital

As a district nurse you will hold a current registered or enrolled nurse annual practicing certificate and a valid driver's licence.

The successful candidate will support patients in their home/community clinic to manage complex wound cares, urinary catheters, drains, feeding tubes, central line maintenance, medication administration, palliative care and other nursing duties.

You will utilise your nursing knowledge to assess health needs, demonstrating advanced clinical skills to assess, develop, implement and evaluate an integrated plan that supports excellent patient care.

While practicing independently you will have the ability to work collaboratively with other health professional, patients and their caregivers.

You may be assigned additional portfolios within this role and these will be mutually agreed between yourself and your manager.

About the Team/Service/ Location

Our service runs 7 days a week from 0800-1630hrs across three regions, Whanganui, Rangitikei and Waimarino and offers the options of both in home and clinic-based care, because of this there may be a requirement in the role to travel to, and provide service coverage in the Marton/Rangitikei and Waimarino district on a rostered basis.

About you

To be effective and succeed in this role it is expected that you will have the following proven capabilities:

  • Registered or Enrolled nurse with a current New Zealand practicing certificate
  • Will hold or be working towards a proficient portfolio
  • Hold a valid driver's licence
  • Computer literacy and experience working with MS word, outlook, clinical portal and webpas
  • Excellent communication skills with patients, whanau and colleagues
  • Use verbal and written communication skills effectively, listens actively and shares relevant information
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and work autonomously and within a team
  • Ability to manage time effectively, prioritise needs and cope with change at short notice
