About the Role
The purpose of this role is to deliver a comprehensive occupational therapy service to Te Whetu Tawera service users, grounded in evidence-based practice and recovery-focused principles. The role prioritises meeting the needs of Tangata Whaiora while contributing to positive clinical outcomes. You will focus on developing occupational performance skills and implementing strategies to reduce barriers to participation, supporting individuals to live successfully in the community. Using occupation as a therapeutic, evidence-based approach, you will contribute to both individual and group recovery programmes. In this context, occupation encompasses all meaningful activities people engage in, including self-care, social and leisure pursuits, work, and other productive roles.

About the Team/Service/ Location
Te Whetu Tawera is the Adult Acute Inpatient Mental Health Unit for Te Toka Tumai Auckland. We serve the central Auckland population through a 60-bed unit, including a 12-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Our multidisciplinary team of skilled Psychiatrists, Nurses, and Allied Health professionals provides assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for adults experiencing serious mental illness and severe psychological disorders. We work collaboratively with service users, their families/whanau, and eight community mental health teams to support recovery.

About you
As an Occupational Therapist for Te Whetu Tawera, you will meet the below minimum requirements:
Currently a New Zealand Registered Occupational Therapist
Hold a current APC
Have the relevant undergraduate qualification / degree (or equivalent) in Occupational Therapy
An understanding of mental healthcare in New Zealand.
Evidence of relevant learning and commitment to on-going professional development.
A current full clean Drivers Licence
Postgraduate Mental Health qualification
You will also have the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, demonstrate a good understanding of bicultural issues and Te Tiriti o Waitangi, and be responsive to fast-changing situations and priorities, remaining flexible and adaptable.
