  • Medical Laboratory Scientist, Histology, Canterbury Health Laboratories
  • Fixed term (until 2 November 2026), Part-Time, 64 hours per fortnight (0.8 FTE)
  • An opportunity for a registered Scientist to join a secondary/tertiary hospital laboratory team.

About the Role

Part of Canterbury Health Laboratories and based on the campus of Christchurch Hospital, the Anatomical Pathology Department is made up of a team of Medical Laboratory Scientists, Medical Laboratory Technicians, Pathologist Assistants, Pathologists, Registrars and administrative staff.

To be successful in joining our Histology team, you will be a highly motivated team player with excellent interpersonal skills and able to work as part of a team as well as independently. In addition, you will be organised and efficient with effective time management and communication skills.

As a Medical Laboratory Scientist, you will be responsible for

  • Working with the Section Head to ensure the laboratory provides appropriate support to clinical services with the provision of reliable and timely test results
  • Providing technical and scientific support
  • Providing high-quality service to clients
  • Carrying out techniques according to laboratory protocol

About you

Skills and experience:

  • Hold a relevant graduate and/or post-graduate qualification
  • Be registered as a Medical Laboratory Scientist with the New Zealand Medical Sciences Council
  • Experience working in a Histology laboratory, including special stains and immunohistochemistry (desirable)
