Skilled Chinese Cuisine Chef Wanted

Employer: Looktea Restaurant Location: Auckland Hours: Minimum 30 hours per week Pay Rate: $27–$30 per hour (depending on experience)

Looktea Restaurant is a well-known Chinese restaurant offering authentic Chinese cuisine, focusing on freshly prepared dishes and consistent quality. Due to ongoing business demand, we are seeking an experienced full-time Chinese Cuisine Chef to join our kitchen team. The ideal candidate will be skilled in traditional Chinese cooking techniques and capable of performing well in a busy, fast-paced restaurant environment.

Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of proven experience as a chef in a commercial kitchen, with strong experience in Chinese cuisine
• Ability to work evenings, weekends, and split shifts as required by restaurant operations
• Strong ability to work under pressure while maintaining food quality and consistency
• Sound understanding of New Zealand food safety and hygiene standards
• Competence in ingredient preparation, portion control, and efficient kitchen workflow

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare, cook, and present a wide range of Chinese dishes in accordance with the restaurant’s menu and quality standards
• Carry out daily food preparation tasks including ingredient selection, cutting, marinating, cooking, and plating
• Ensure consistency in taste, presentation, and portion sizes during service periods
• Monitor food freshness, ingredient usage, and stock rotation to minimise waste
• Maintain high standards of kitchen hygiene, cleanliness, and food safety compliance at all times
• Properly store, preserve, and freeze food in line with operational requirements
• Assist with developing or refining menu items, sauces, and cooking methods to enhance dish quality
• Train and guide junior kitchen staff in food preparation techniques, portioning, and safe equipment use
• Support smooth kitchen operations through effective teamwork and communication
