Job Title: Experienced Chef - Mexican Cuisine

Location: Corner Marshland & New Brighton Road, Shirley, Christchurch 8061

30 hours a week Flexibility with schedule and late night shifts.

Job Description: We are seeking a passionate and experienced Chef specializing in Mexican cuisine to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have extensive knowledge of traditional and contemporary Mexican dishes, strong kitchen leadership skills, and a commitment to delivering exceptional dining experiences.

Responsibilities:

• Prepare, cook, and present authentic and innovative Mexican dishes with a focus on high-quality ingredients.
• Develop and refine menu items, ensuring a balance of traditional and modern Mexican flavors.
• Lead, mentor, and manage kitchen staff to ensure efficient and consistent food preparation.
• Maintain high standards of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen organization.
• Collaborate with management to plan seasonal menus, specials, and events.
• Monitor inventory levels, order supplies, and minimize waste to control food costs.
• Stay updated on trends in Mexican cuisine and incorporate new techniques or ingredients as appropriate.
• Ensure customer satisfaction by maintaining consistent food quality and presentation.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Chef, with at least 3 years in a professional kitchen.
• In-depth knowledge of Mexican culinary traditions, ingredients, and techniques.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and multitasking skills.
• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent communication and team-building abilities.
• Culinary degree or relevant certifications NZQF Diploma ( Level 4).
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Preferred Skills:

• Experience in creating diverse menu offerings, including vegetarian and vegan Mexican dishes.
• Familiarity with traditional cooking methods such as nixtamalization, mole preparation, or tamale-making.
• Knowledge of sourcing authentic Mexican ingredients.
