Mo tatou | About us - What we do Our role at Antarctica New Zealand is to support world-leading science and environmental protection in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. Scott Base is the hub of New Zealand's activities in Antarctica and each year, we employ seasonal staff to manage base activity and support science in the field.
Mō te mahi | About the role - What you'll be doing It takes a passionate, diverse, and highly skilled team to run Scott Base. You will join a diverse and motivated team in the world's most dynamic workplace.
Our Domestic/Medic Support is responsible for the cleanliness and hygiene of amenities at Scott Base as well as supporting the functions of the Scott Base Medic through the summer season and then transition to be solely responsible for provision of first aid services and medical functions at Scott Base as well maintaining base cleanliness and hygiene through winter when a reduced crew is on base. This is a thirteen-month (winter) role from August 2025 to October 2027.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Ensure all common areas, bathrooms and work areas are maintained in a clean and hygienic condition and are fit for purpose daily
- Preparing bedrooms for occupation and undertaking laundry duties
- Supporting the Scott Base medic with the provision of medical services and emergency medical response for Scott Base personnel (either on base or in the field).
- Supporting the Scott Base medic to promote the health and wellbeing initiatives for Scott Base personnel
- Inventory management of medical, cleaning equipment and domestic stores
- Assist with bar service and demonstrate host responsibility with regard to service of alcohol
- Positively contribute to the overall base community culture and assist with proactively identifying community needs
- Serving on the Scott Base Fire Crew

Skills and Experience Include:
- Bachelor of Nursing or Paramedicine and current relevant NZ registration
- Relevant wilderness, rural or remote healthcare experience
- Commercial cleaning or housekeeping experience
- Ability to demonstrate a strong customer service focus and communicate effectively and empathetically with superior interpersonal skills
- Current full NZ Class 1 driver's licence and ability to drive a manual vehicle
