Description

We are seeking a commercially astute, values-led, operational General Manager to lead our client’s artisanal food business through its next chapter of sustainable growth.

This is a rare opportunity to take full leadership of a purpose-driven organisation where quality, people, and values matter as much as commercial performance.

Equally comfortable on the factory floor and in the boardroom, you will combine strategic ambition with disciplined operational leadership. You will lead and develop a high-performing team, protect the integrity of the brands, and ensure the business continues to thrive - commercially and culturally.

This role is reporting directly to the Managing Director and has full accountability for the overall performance of the business, including strategy development and execution, operations, financial results, culture, and leadership capability.

You will act as a trusted advisor to the owners, confident in constructive challenge, and serve as a credible ambassador for the business within the wider food industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the commercial and financial performance of the business
  • Lead and execute the company’s strategic plan to deliver sustainable, long-term growth
  • Oversee food manufacturing operations with an uncompromising focus on quality, food safety, and efficiency
  • Drive margin improvement, cost control, and productivity initiatives
  • Prepare the business for exporting
  • Lead key negotiations and support strong customer and supplier relationships
  • Foster a respectful, people-centred, and collaborative working environment
  • Represent the business with credibility among external stakeholders and industry partners You are an experienced senior leader with a strong background in food manufacturing and a proven ability to scale operations and lead organisations through growth and change. You bring:
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen with a results-oriented mindset
  • A deep understanding of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement
  • A calm, confident, and resilient leadership style in complex or high-growth environments
  • The ability to communicate clearly, build trust quickly, and lead with consistency
  • You are an authentic, self-aware, values-led leader who is comfortable being challenged—and prepared to challenge constructively in the best interests of the business
  • Have a genuine passion for food and appreciation of artisanal brands
  • Long-term, sustainable success rather than short-term wins
  • Building strong cultures, developing people, and improving organisations This is a rare opportunity to lead a values-driven food business where you will have the mandate to shape the future of the organisation and leave a lasting legacy. You’ll work with passionate people, respected brands, and owners that values strong leadership and thoughtful challenge.
