Twenty Seven Steps is a much-loved Christchurch restaurant known for thoughtful food, genuine hospitality, and an exceptional wine list. We are currently seeking an experienced Shift Leader to join our front-of-house team on a full-time evening basis.
This is a hands-on leadership role suited to someone who thrives on the floor, enjoys mentoring others, and takes pride in creating warm, seamless guest experiences. There is the potential for a full management role moving forward if this is something you are interested in.
Key Responsibilities:
- Running the restaurant floor during evening service (a fast & busy service!)
- Coordinating staff and service flow to ensure smooth, efficient operations
- Managing reservations and identifying gaps for walk-ins to maximise service without compromising guest experience
- Providing knowledgeable and engaging wine service, including recommendations and upselling
- Leading by example with exceptional customer service and professionalism
- Handling customer enquiries and resolving issues calmly and effectively
- Supporting training and supervision of front-of-house staff
- Ensuring compliance with health, safety, and host responsibility requirements
Skills and Experience Required
- Minimum 2–3 years’ experience in a senior front-of-house or shift leadership role in a quality hospitality environment
- Strong wine knowledge and confidence discussing wine with guests
- Current LCQ and Manager’s Certificate (or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe)
- Excellent communication and leadership skills
- A warm, professional personality with a genuine love of hospitality
- Ability to remain calm and organised in a fast-paced service environment
Hours and Employment Details
- Full-time role, minimum 30 hours per week
- Evening shifts, including weekends
- Permanent position based in Christchurch, New Zealand
Salary
NZD $28.00 – $35.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications Good tips for NZ! Meal provided and good staff discounts
