Description

Spellbound is hiring team members who can deliver and facilitate immersive Glowworm and Cave ECO tours. Our customers and travel agents seek out Spellbound for our passionate and personable staff, our simple, well laid out tour design and world class bioluminescence experience. Guiding our tours is not like normal guiding, it literally leaves the customers "Spellbound". Its guiding, hosting, and glowworm therapy all mixed into one very rewarding day.

We run our tours in the Mangawhitikau Glowworm Cave, 12 minutes from Te Kuiti and 16minutes from Waitomo Village. Spellbound is run by the Chandler family. Pete started the first aventure tour (black water rafting) in Waitomo in 1987. The opportunity to develop tours at Mangawhitikau came in 1999. Then Pete and Libby sold BWR and kept Spellbound as the main focus in 2003 and they have been growing and developing it ever since.

Spellbound's focus is to deliver world class tours and to deveop them for a sustainiable tourism future.

The role Immediate start required Guiding 2-3 tours of 10 customers per day Driving a mini bus to our Caves from our office on back country roads Hosting customers to provide them with a well rounded eco and geotourism experience.

Additional roles Staff with safety, operations, administration, construction or maintainence experiece would be of added value to our team!

Our ideal candidate has: *Excellent interpersonal skills and awareness *Photography skills/experience *A driver’s licence with passenger endorsement (or a full clean licence for at least 2 years) and optionally class 2. (International drivers can gain a passenger endorsement through the exemption process, this requires police checks from previous counties of residence and an equivalent driver's licence for at least 2 years). *A First Aid certificate

We are seeking these Key Attributes: *Courteous and kind hosting *A genuine interest in the outdoors and New Zealand's natural and cultural history *A professional and mature approach *Excellent communication skills *A clean and tidy appearance *Good hygiene and cleaning skills *The ability to work unsupervised outdoors *The ability to understand and practise all our safety measures *Guiding/instructing and caving experience would be preferred

Remuneration and benefits *Training at living wage and progressing once independantly guiding. *Time and a quater for work on weekend days. *Opportunites for further training and development- an NZOIA cave assessor is on the team.

What is guiding at Spellbound like?

Spellbound tours have a great deal of flexibility allowing guides to facilitate and customise tours to the guides strengths and customers needs. The tour provides an exceptional ecotour experience. We show New Zealand’s brightest publicly accessible glowworm display. Each day you get to enjoy the wonder of the glowworms and share them with appreciative visitors who have sought out this unique experience. 6 to 9 hours of work per day, most of our guides prefer to work upto 4x 9 hour days and have a 3 day weekend or pursue other interests.
