About Trade Assist We are looking for an experienced HR professional who can help bring clarity, consistency, and stronger people processes across the business.
Trade Assist are a specialist recruitment and labour hire business supporting clients across construction, manufacturing, logistics, and infrastructure throughout New Zealand.
Our business has grown strongly in recent years, and as we continue to scale we want to strengthen the internal structure that supports our people and leadership teams.
This role will work closely with leadership to improve how we manage performance, support managers, structure roles and progression, and ensure our systems and processes are working properly. This is a hands-on, practical role suited to someone who enjoys working in an operational environment and helping businesses run better.
What We're Looking For We are looking for someone who is practical, organised, and confident working in a fast-moving operational business.
The successful person will likely have strong generalist HR experience and be comfortable working directly with managers to help improve how teams operate.
You will bring:
- solid HR generalist or HR management experience
- strong knowledge of New Zealand employment relations and HR practice
- experience supporting managers with performance management and people issues
- strong organisational and documentation skills
- confidence using systems and data to support decision-making
- a practical, solutions-focused approach
Experience in recruitment, labour hire, or another fast-paced service environment would be highly beneficial.
The Role The HR Manager will be responsible for supporting the leadership team to improve the way people are managed across Trade Assist.
The role will focus on strengthening manager capability, improving performance management, lifting HR systems and processes, and helping bring greater discipline and consistency to people-related matters across the business.
A key part of the role will be ensuring the business gets strong value from 15Five, using it effectively for engagement, one-on-ones, goal tracking, and performance reviews.
This role will suit someone who is comfortable working alongside leaders, dealing with issues directly, and helping build a more structured and well-run organisation.
Key Areas of Responsibility Manager Support & Capability
- Provide practical HR guidance and support to managers across the business
- Coach leaders on handling performance conversations, people issues, and team management
- Help improve the quality and consistency of one-on-ones, feedback, and development discussions
- Support managers to address issues early and appropriately
Performance & Accountability
- Strengthen performance management processes across the business
- Support the development of clearer expectations, role clarity, and accountability
- Assist with documentation and processes relating to performance management and improvement plans
- Help embed stronger follow-through and discipline around people management
Systems & Process Improvement
- Review and improve HR systems, workflows, templates, and documentation
- Ensure employee lifecycle processes are consistent and well managed
- Improve onboarding processes for new hires
- Strengthen overall administration and process discipline across HR activities
15Five Management & Reporting
- Lead and coordinate the business's use of the 15Five platform
- Improve adoption of check-ins, goals, reviews, and engagement tools
- Support managers to use the platform effectively
- Use reporting insights to highlight trends, issues, and opportunities for improvement
Employment Relations & Compliance
- Provide guidance on employee relations matters, disciplinary processes, and investigations
- Ensure HR processes are handled fairly and in line with New Zealand employment legislation
- Maintain employment policies, templates, and documentation
- Support leadership in managing risk and ensuring compliance
Continuous Improvement
- Identify areas where processes or structures can be improved
- Support leadership in implementing practical improvements across the business
- Help strengthen communication, consistency, and internal structure
