Manual Lathe Operator

Rate: $28ph + Holiday Pay Hours: Monday to Friday 12pm to 8pm Location: East Tāmaki, Auckland

We’re looking for an experienced Manual Lathe Operator to join our manufacturing team. In this role, you’ll set up, operate, and maintain capstan and turret lathes to produce high quality aluminium and metal components. You’ll use your machining knowledge, attention to detail, and commitment to safety to deliver accurate parts and support smooth workshop operations.

Responsibilities:

• Set up, operate, and monitor capstan and turret lathes safely and efficiently
• Select tooling, cutting speeds, and feeds to meet tight tolerances
• Operate additional workshop machinery such as drills, milling machines, and presses
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and work instructions
• Plan machining operations to maximise efficiency and minimise scrap
• Measure and inspect components using verniers, micrometers, and gauges
• Conduct in process and final quality checks
• Identify and correct machine or product issues, completing relevant documentation
• Monitor and improve machining processes and cycle times
• Communicate with planners and supervisors to meet production targets
• Perform routine machine maintenance and keep work areas clean and safe

Requirements:

• Proven experience with manual capstan and turret lathes
• Strong understanding of machining processes and metal properties
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings with precision
• Competent in using measurement and inspection tools
• Reliable, safety focused, and quality driven
• Able to work independently and as part of a workshop team
