Maintenance Fitter – On Site (Meat Processing Plant) Tradestaff is looking for an experienced Maintenance Fitter to join a well-established meat processing plant in Ashburton. This is an immediate-start role supporting critical site operations, with strong potential for longer-term work for the right person.
Location: Ashburton Pay rate: $32–$40 per hour (experience dependent) Duration: Immediate start, 6–12 weeks initially, with potential to go long term Shifts: Open to rotating afternoon and morning shift
What you’ll be doing:
- Carrying out ongoing maintenance to keep plant and machinery operating
- Responding quickly to breakdowns and production issues
- Working with chains, hooks, and general mechanical systems
- Performing welding tasks as required (MIG, ARC, TIG – not all essential)
- Supporting proactive maintenance to reduce downtime
What we’re looking for:
- Minimum 2+ years’ experience as a Maintenance Fitter or similar role
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to think on your feet
- Proactive mindset with good problem-solving skills
- Experience in food processing or meat works highly desirable
- Welding experience an advantage
- Electrical ticket a bonus, but not required
- Full Class 1 driver licence (for short site-related runs)
- Reliable, safety-focused, and responsive to breakdowns
