CNC Laser Operator

• $30-$35 per hour depending on experience
• Full-time hours with steady workflow

EQUIP People are seeking an experienced CNC Laser Operator to join a well-established sheet metal workshop based in Christchurch, Canterbury.

This role suits someone confident operating CNC fibre laser machinery in a fast-paced production environment. You'll be involved in a mix of one-off custom jobs and larger production runs while working closely with fabrication and production teams.

Duties may include:

• Setting up and operating CNC fibre laser cutting machines
• Loading and adjusting programmes for different materials and job requirements
• Reading and interpreting engineering drawings and CAD files
• Running both small batch and high-volume production work
• Monitoring cut quality and maintaining tight tolerances
• Troubleshooting minor machine and production issues
• Checking, counting, and labelling finished parts accurately
• Completing basic machine maintenance and housekeeping tasks

This role starts as a temporary assignment with strong potential to become permanent for the right person.

What We're Looking For

• Proven CNC laser operating experience
• Fibre laser experience preferred
• Ability to read and work from engineering drawings
• Experience working with steel, stainless steel, or aluminium
• Good understanding of workshop production environments
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy
• Reliable, practical, and able to work independently
• Good communication and teamwork skills
