About The Role.

At McCain, Packing Operators are business-critical team members who ensure the safe and efficient running of our packing lines for locally grown potato products. As part of our 24/7 facility in Timaru, you will join a small, supportive team maintaining product quality and safety standards. Your role is hands-on and fast-paced, involving machine operation and manual handling, with a focus on both teamwork and individual responsibility.

Full training will be provided, ensuring you have the knowledge and support needed to succeed in your role.

What You’ll Be Doing.

  • Operate and troubleshoot packing equipment such as graders, weighers, baggers, case packers, tapers, coders, pallet wrappers, and labellers
  • Accurately complete quality and operational documentation
  • Maintain exceptional hygiene and food safety practices
  • Proactively identify and report workplace hazards
  • Uphold the line productivity, safety, and product quality
  • Participate in a roster consisting of 12-hour shifts:
  • 2 days (7am–7pm), 2 nights (7pm–7am), followed by 4 days off
  • Perform manual handling tasks as required
  • Solve operational problems quickly and effectively
  • Collaborate with teammates, supporting a safe and productive environment What You’ll Need To Be Successful.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety as your top priority
  • Previous machine operation experience (advantageous but not essential)
  • Previous forklift operation experience (advantageous but not essential)
  • Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving ability
  • Comfortable using simple touch screen controls as part of daily tasks
  • Good computer and data entry skills
  • Clear communication and a positive, team-focused attitude
  • Willingness to learn, with demonstrated initiative and reliability
  • Sufficient strength and fitness to manage role’s physical demands
  • Legally entitled to work in New Zealand
