Description
Profile Polymers Ltd (PPL) is 100% New Zealand owned and operated and its located right here in the Waikato. PPL manufacture and supply a wide range of extruded profiles from both flexible and rigid plastic and injection moulded components. This is an excellent opportunity for a skilled tradesperson who enjoys precision engineering, problem solving, and working collaboratively within a manufacturing environment.
You will be responsible for:
Tooling Manufacture & Maintenance
- Manufacture, assemble, maintain, repair, and modify extrusion, injection moulding tools and tooling components to engineering CAD models, drawings and specifications.
- Carry out preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs on tooling to support production uptime.
- Diagnose tooling faults and implement effective corrective actions.
- Design and manufacture jigs and fixtures to improve machining efficiency on standardized tooling.
- Support tooling and equipment improvements to enhance safety, quality, performance, and tool life.
- Liaise with external suppliers to manage consumables, tooling and materials.
Machining & Fitting
- Programme CNC milling machines and wire cut EDM machines, tracking machine times and optimising programmes.
- Operate manual and CNC machines (e.g. lathe, milling machine, surface grinder, wire cutter, EDM as applicable) safely and effectively.
- Carry out precision fitting, polishing, and finishing operations to achieve required tolerances and surface finishes.
- Read and interpret technical drawings, CAD models, and specifications.
Continuous Improvement
- Contribute ideas and practical solutions for tooling, equipment, process, and product improvement.
- Support trialing and commissioning of new or modified tools.
- Work collaboratively with Engineering, Production, and Quality teams to resolve tooling and equipment issues.
Health, Safety & Housekeeping
- Work in accordance with all company Health, Safety, and Environmental requirements.
- Identify hazards and actively contribute to a safe toolroom and production environment.
- Clean and maintain machines and keep a well-managed and organized workspace and tooling area.
Documentation & Systems
- Accurately complete tooling records, maintenance logs, and job documentation as required.
- Follow standard work instructions, procedures, and quality requirements.
The Successful candidate must have the following:
- Trade qualification in Toolmaking or equivalent industry experience
- Proven experience building and maintaining injection moulding tools
- Strong machining, fitting, and fault-finding capabilities
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation
- Strong focus on safety, quality, and attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively within a team environment
