About the role
As our dedicated Photographer/Videographer, you'll create engaging visual content for digital and print channels, including social media, websites, publications and campaigns. You'll be out and about across our city, capturing destinations, events, local businesses and community initiatives, while also supporting teams across Council to represent their work visually.
You'll collaborate with advisors, writers and designers to ensure everything you produce is on-brand, compelling and easy for our audiences to understand.
What you'll be doing
- Capturing and editing high-quality photos, short-form videos and simple graphics.
- Proactively photographing Porirua's destinations, events and people.
- Using briefs, insights and analytics to create content that resonates with target audiences.
- Contributing to major campaigns including Wellington On a Plate, ChoctoberFest and Discover Porirua.
- Keeping up with social media trends and suggesting fresh content ideas.
- Curating and managing our visual asset library.
- Building strong working relationships across Council and with external partners.
- Representing Council professionally at events and in public-facing work.
About you
If you're passionate about storytelling through photography and video, and you're excited to help shape how Porirua is seen and celebrated, we'd love to hear from you.
You'll need to show us that you bring:
- Several years' experience in photography and videography, with a strong portfolio/showreel.
- Technical proficiency with cameras, lighting and editing tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Premiere Pro/Final Cut Pro).
- Strong understanding of social media trends and content marketing.
- Confidence working with people from diverse backgrounds and putting them at ease on camera.
- Understanding of privacy, consent and safe filming practices.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently, juggle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- A flexible, positive, can-do attitude.
- Availability for some work outside normal business hours to attend events
- Current NZ driver's licence.
