Selwyn United FC is seeking expressions of interest for a full-time Football Development Officer (FDO). This role is central to delivering high-quality, fun, equitable and sustainable football experiences for players across the Selwyn region. The FDO works closely with the Director of Football (DOF), General Manager and wider staff to ensure that community and development programmes are well organised, well communicated and aligned with the club’s values and long-term vision. We are looking for an energetic, organised and relationship-focused football leader who can confidently support coaches, volunteers, referees, young players and their families. The ideal candidate will be hands-on, proactive, visible across all Selwyn United hubs and committed to raising the standard of football delivery throughout the club. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the DOF to deliver high-quality community football, including in-house grades, coach coordination, and winter team organisation
- Supporting First Kicks and Fun Football delivery, curriculum oversight and coordination with the Junior Football Coordinator
- Driving the growth and quality of women’s football, including pathways, coaching support and senior team environments
- Recruiting, supporting and educating coaches, delivering coaching courses, and ensuring all coaches understand and apply the SUFC philosophy
- Coordinating referee education, development opportunities, wellbeing initiatives and behaviour-expectation programmes
- Overseeing summer football, holiday programmes, futsal pathways and wider community skills programmes
- Supporting football delivery in the wider Selwyn community alongside schools, SDC, Selwyn Sports Trust, Mainland Football and other partners
- Assisting in the facilitation of high-performance pathways including Skills Centre, TDP and senior high-performance environments
- Supporting and delivering festivals and tournaments, ensuring both hosted and attended events run smoothly and to a high standard
- Ensuring strong communication, administrative accuracy, facility access coordination, and high-quality preparation of SUFC grounds
- Maintaining visibility and support across Selwyn United hubs including Leeston, West Melton, Lincoln and Darfield We are seeking a motivated football development enthusiast with strong interpersonal skills, on-grass coaching experience, and the ability to support a wide range of programmes and age groups. A commitment to community football, positive environments, and continual improvement is essential.
