Three Waters Technician

Kaikōura District Council is seeking a capable and motivated Three Waters Technician for a 12-month fixed-term contract working full-time hours. Based in one of Aotearoa’s most spectacular coastal towns, this is a unique opportunity to join a small, supportive team and make a real difference to both our community and environment.

In this role, you’ll be our in-house specialist for water, wastewater, and stormwater services. You’ll need a broad skill set, sound judgement, and the ability to know when to seek support.

Some responsibilities could include, but not be limited to:

• Effective routine day-to-day operation of Council’s 3 Waters (water supply, wastewater and stormwater) services.
• Systems Performance Monitoring and Reporting
• Asset Management
• Project and contract management
• Regulatory compliance
• Technical analysis and reporting
• Customer and stakeholder engagement

The ideal candidate will have the following skills and experience:

• Understanding of water treatment systems
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar role
• Familiarity with current regulatory and quality control frameworks for water services
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills and cultural awareness
• Well-developed computer skills particularly Microsoft Word and Excel
• High level written and verbal communication skills
• Proven ability in performing a range of tasks under competing demands, and producing a quality result, consistently on time
• Initiative, the ability to think and act ‘ahead of the curve' and proactively follow up
• Tertiary qualification in engineering, environmental science or other potentially waters related discipline
• Local Government experience, would be an added bonus
• Knowledge of reticulation construction and maintenance, would be desirable, but not a deal breaker
• Experience of managing projects
• Experience in management of contractors
