Description

We’re looking for a Wastewater Operator to join our tight knit Water team, based primarily at Bell Island. If you enjoy practical, hands on work, take pride in doing a job that really matters, and want your skills to make a visible difference every single day — this could be your perfect move.

This is a key role in the operation and performance of wastewater treatment facilities across the Nelson Tasman region. It's hands-on within a critical 24/7 operation, offering variety and responsibility.

About the role You’ll work with the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and optimisation of the treatment plant, its associated infrastructure and you'll contribute to continuous improvement across plant and pump processes.

Key responsibilities

Operate and monitor wastewater treatment plant processes and equipment
Carry out proactive maintenance, repairs, and cleaning of plant and equipment
Collect and analyse samples for laboratory and field testing
Monitor pump stations and reticulation systems
Assist with reporting, compliance audits, and safety checks
Participate in the after-hours duty roster, including weekends and public holidays

What we’re looking for

National certificate or Diploma in Wastewater Treatment and/or Wastewater Reticulation
Proven experience in wastewater treatment operations
Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
Excellent communication and organisational skills
High level of reliability, attention to detail, and commitment to safety
