We’re looking for a Wastewater Operator to join our tight knit Water team, based primarily at Bell Island. If you enjoy practical, hands on work, take pride in doing a job that really matters, and want your skills to make a visible difference every single day — this could be your perfect move.
This is a key role in the operation and performance of wastewater treatment facilities across the Nelson Tasman region. It's hands-on within a critical 24/7 operation, offering variety and responsibility.
About the role You’ll work with the day-to-day operation, monitoring, and optimisation of the treatment plant, its associated infrastructure and you'll contribute to continuous improvement across plant and pump processes.
Key responsibilities
- Operate and monitor wastewater treatment plant processes and equipment
- Carry out proactive maintenance, repairs, and cleaning of plant and equipment
- Collect and analyse samples for laboratory and field testing
- Monitor pump stations and reticulation systems
- Assist with reporting, compliance audits, and safety checks
- Participate in the after-hours duty roster, including weekends and public holidays
What we’re looking for
- National certificate or Diploma in Wastewater Treatment and/or Wastewater Reticulation
- Proven experience in wastewater treatment operations
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
- Excellent communication and organisational skills
- High level of reliability, attention to detail, and commitment to safety
