The Todd Energy Aquatic Centre, located in New Plymouth, is a premier facility offering a wide range of aquatic activities and amenities. Featuring an Olympic-sized swimming pool, a dedicated diving pool, a wave pool and a therapeutic spa area, it caters to swimmers of all ages and skill levels.
The centre also provides swim lessons and aqua fitness classes, ensuring a comprehensive aquatic experience for the community. With its state-of-the-art facilities and welcoming atmosphere, the Todd Energy Aquatic Centre is the perfect destination for family fun, fitness and relaxation.
The opportunity - Te aheinga
Are you passionate about water safety and creating great experiences for our community?
We’re looking for Lifeguards, Duty Lifeguards and Assistant Duty Lifeguards to join our aquatic team!
These roles are vital in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of all visitors. You’ll supervise pool activities, respond to emergencies and help maintain high standards across our facilities. Duty Lifeguards and Assistant Duty Lifeguards also provide leadership and support to the team.
Availability
You’ll need to be flexible and available to work on a seven-day rotating roster between 5.00am and 7.30pm, including two out of every three weekends.
Key responsibilities - Nga haepapa matua
- Actively supervise all aquatic activities to maintain health and safety standards
- Respond promptly to incidents and emergency situations
- Perform water quality tests and assist with maintenance requirements
- Ensure compliance with legislation, Council policies and procedures
- (Duty and Assistant Duty Lifeguards) Provide leadership, mentoring and operational support to the lifeguard team
Essential skills and experience - Nga pukenga me nga wheako
- Current Comprehensive First Aid certificate
- Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (advantageous)
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Swimming pool water treatment qualification (advantageous for senior roles)

You can expect to start in these positions on a minimum of $28.95 per hour, increasing with position and experience.
