Are you passionate about supporting women and children who have experienced family violence?
Can you stay calm in a crisis situation, and can you think on your feet?
Do you have excellent communication skills (written and oral)?
Do you understand confidentiality and the need to be discreet?
Do you have a current NZ driving license and access to a car?
Do you have reliable internet access and phone coverage?
Do you have availability overnight or during the day at weekends to cover two shifts and be on call for HVWR. Can you also be available for a monthly meeting?
We are looking for a team of caring and compassionate women to form a team of after-hours crisis workers for HVWR. The shifts would be from 4 pm to 8 am during the week and 8 am to 8 pm/8 pm to 8 am at weekends. You would need to be available for at least two shifts a week and be available to take calls, make assessments and admit women and children to the Safe House if necessary. Full training will be given.
The team would take calls from the call centre (Whakarongorau) who initially triage the callers and refer on only if someone needs support, such as admission to our Safe House. This is a small number of calls a month, from women or the police when someone needs support or admission to the Safe House.
No qualifications are required, but may suit student counsellors/social workers/ nurses, etc or others with some knowledge of family violence and its effects on women and children.
An on-call allowance will be paid for shifts worked, plus an hourly rate if called out.
An information session will be held with a view to training beginning in mid-February.
Please note, due to the nature of this work, this role requires a clean Police Vetting result and, as per section 1(1) of the NZ Human Rights Act 1993, applications will only be considered from people identifying as female.
