About ATNZ
ATNZ is New Zealand’s largest employer of apprentices in the engineering trades, spanning across fabrication, mechanical engineering, refrigeration and air conditioning. With ATNZ support, our apprentices work in some of New Zealand’s leading engineering organisations and gain valuable skills and experience that see them become highly sought-after tradespeople. We are a team of passionate people working to provide high quality pathways for motivated people who want to learn and earn their way to a trade. We make a real difference in people’s lives, while also building the capability of New Zealand’s workforce in the engineering sector.
The Role:
ATNZ is looking for a motivated and enthusiastic Account Manager to provide tailored training, assessment and support to our Fabricating, Mechanical Engineering, and Refrigeration & Air Conditioning apprentices, through coaching, mentoring and management. You will also support the learning and wellbeing of your apprentices and assess whether they are competent to industry standards.
In this demanding and fast-paced role you will use your excellent people skills to develop rewarding careers for our apprentices and help steer them on the road to success.
This is a meaningful time to join our organisation. Three years on from our successful transition to an independent Private Training Establishment, we’re in a period of strong growth - grounded in our values and commitment to people. As we continue to invest in our learners, our host partners, and our team, this role will evolve and grow, offering the opportunity to make a genuine impact and be part of shaping our future.
Please note: In order to be successful in this role you need to hold an Engineering Trade Certificate or Trade Qualification (or higher).
Qualifications and relevant experience:
- Interest or experience working with young people
- A trade certificate in an Engineering trade, with at least five years’ experience as a tradesperson. A background in HVAC and Refrigeration/Air Conditioning (RAC) would be an advantage

- Adult education certificate or training delivery qualification and/or experience would be useful
- Understanding of Education or Training industry would be beneficial
Skills and attributes:
- Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to manage your own territory effectively and efficiently to meet the needs of the customer
- Passion for developing, training and supporting apprentices
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- High level of computer literacy, proficient in Microsoft office suite
- Ability to manage time effectively
If this sounds like you, we’d love to hear from you!

ATNZ
The ATNZ story ATNZ was created as a trust in 1999 to provide dedicated and focused training for apprentices in the engineering and manufacturing industries.
From humble origins in Hawkes Bay, ATNZ expanded quickly to become a national organisation and is now New Zealand’s largest employer of apprentices in mechanical engineering and related industries. ATNZ employs over 370 apprentices throughout New Zealand, hosted by over 170 companies.
The passion and dedication of our Account Managers set ATNZ apart from other providers. Our approach is one of customised support and mentoring of our apprentices, which results in a higher completion rate, typically in a faster time.
Our company name is Apprentice Training New Zealand 2010 Trust. We trade under the name ATNZ.
PTE establishment ATNZ, formerly a subsidiary of the Competenz ITO, became a stand-alone Trust in 2021 due to the disestablishment of ITOs under the government’s reform of vocational education (RoVE).
In August 2022, ATNZ achieved NZQA registration as a PTE, which will commence operations in January 2023. This registration enables us to provide our apprenticeship programmes and other training to create a more robust, future focused workforce for the engineering and manufacturing sectors.
PTE registration also allows us to provide the industry with the flexibility of non-employed apprenticeships for an annual fee and our well-established hosting model. These two options, which both include customised apprentice mentoring and the development of better training materials, are tailored to produce better results for companies that want to invest in their people.
