Compass Group NZ is looking for a Business Development Manager who ideally has come up through the kitchen and is ready to lead from the commercial seat that you are familiar with. You understand food at a craft level, you have the network to back it, and you can turn both into contracts won.

Based in Parnell, you'll lead the end-to-end sales process, partner with Operations and Culinary to retain and grow accounts, and represent Compass as a credible, food-led partner across our sector portfolio.

Ko o kawenga / Your responsibilities:

• Win new business growth and deliver agreed sales targets across food service, catering, and hospitality
• Lead the sales funnel and CRM with the same discipline culinary professionals brings to service.
• Partner with Operations to support contract retention and improve client outcomes.
• Lead bids, proposals, food cost modelling, pricing, and negotiations.
• Build strong senior-level relationships across the F&B ecosystem - suppliers, distributors, industry bodies, and decision-makers.

He kōrero mōu / About you:

• Proven business development or commercial leadership experience in food service, contract catering, hospitality, or food FMCG
• Chef-trained, with a career that has progressed into F&B management or commercial roles
• Strong grasp of food cost, menu engineering, and delivering quality at scale
• An active, credible F&B network across NZ — suppliers, producers, distributors, operators, and hospitality leaders you can call directly
• Sharp commercial judgement and the ability to build food-led propositions that win on more than price.
• Confident communicator, equally credible in a kitchen and a boardroom, and influence at senior level.
• Tertiary qualification in hospitality, culinary, commerce, or related field (post-trade commercial qualification or MBA well regarded).
