This role is ideal for someone who thrives on building relationships, spotting opportunities, and turning strategic plans into measurable sales results.

This is an opportunity to influence market performance, build strong customer relationships, and contribute to the continued success of one of New Zealand's most trusted brands.

What You'll Be Doing:

This role sits within our Sales Team and plays a key part in shaping and executing regional sales strategy, developing new business, and supporting the National Sales Manager in delivering national growth objectives.

Noting the need for national travel and regularly being out on the road, we are open to applicants from across the country with easy access to a major airport - Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin, Hamilton, Queenstown and Palmerston North.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Driving revenue and market share growth in all areas VTNZ operates in, particularly the heavy truck (CoF B) space through structured sales planning and pipeline management
  • Identifying, developing, and converting new business opportunities across your assigned areas
  • Supporting the development and execution of VTNZ's broader sales strategy
  • Conducting customer needs analysis and competitor research to inform sales approaches
  • Preparing tailored proposals and supporting negotiation strategies alongside Area and Branch Managers
  • Working alongside Area and Branch Managers to support customer visits, training and mentoring
  • Contributing to pricing guidelines to ensure account profitability.
  • Championing safe work practices and reporting hazards, incidents, and near misses promptly
  • Pitching in with additional duties as needed to support the wider team.

What You'll Bring to the role:

As our ideal candidate you will hold:

  • 3+ years' of industry relevant experience in a similar sales or business development role
  • Proven success in driving growth through direct selling
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills
  • Deep understanding of sales processes and customer development
  • Excellent communication skills—written, verbal, and interpersonal
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks with strong organisational and time-management skills
  • Research and analytical capability to support customer and market insights
  • Problem-solving mindset with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Proactive, self-starting, and able to get on with tasks independently.

Why Join VTNZ?

You'll be part of a respected national brand with a strong commitment to safety, service, and innovation. This is a chance to make a real impact on business growth while working with a supportive team that values initiative, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Free WoF's, Southern Cross medical insurance and other employee discounts.

At VTNZ we value your unique experiences, perspectives, and backgrounds. We are committed to an inclusive workplace for all team members.

VTNZ Engaged & passionate about what we do

With a team of over 1,000, VTNZ is the largest employer of Automotive Technicians and Driver Testing Officers in New Zealand. We are part of a global safety organisation, DEKRA and this along with our history of supporting safety on New Zealand roads should set you at ease knowing that job security is where we shine.

We are well known in the communities we serve for our recognisable orange branches dotted around the country. The place to go for a WoF for your car or a CoF for your truck to ensure safety on the roads; or where you come to sit your driving test to give you independence.

Other key roles include Customer Service Representatives (the first impression maker for our customers), Branch Managers who offer leadership to their teams along with our Wellington-based Support Office crew.

The work we do has purpose; dealing with the public offers you a unique perspective into your community and the ability to positively impact individuals as well as all NZ road users. Our core branch roles are generally worked 8-5 weekdays with some Saturday work on a roster which allows you the work/life balance to down tools, turn off work mode and enjoy time with friends and family. We have a dedicated training centre and network of mentors and coaches to support you to embed your new skills into your day-to-day work as well as ongoing opportunities to gain additional inspection authorities, develop your skills or step up into leadership opportunities. We offer competitive pay, perks such as medical cover, uniform, and team-based incentive payments (just so our customers have options; we are not pushy sellers).

Communication is key so our staff intranet, magazine and other internal comms let you know how we are doing; we are then not shy when it comes to celebrating our success. We also partake in engagement surveys to see how we can do better and can keep driving forward.

A social and diverse bunch we welcome all to join our team.
