Description

Hawkes Bay Marine is a small marine business located in Napier, New Zealand, selling & repairing new & used trailer boats & motors. We have a thriving workshop and are dealers for Mercury & Suzuki motors as well as Stabicraft Boats.

We are looking for a candidate who is passionate about the marine industry, has a high level of knowledge of recreational marine engines, parts & accessories with experience in the New Zealand marine industry. In depth knowledge of Suzuki & Mercury Marine products a definite advantage.

The position serves as a key customer contact point — both internal & external — managing marine part enquiries, sales, and product handovers while maintaining the company’s professional image and standards. It is a highly specialised and key role responsible tying all aspects of the business together to drive sales & ensuring maximum efficiencies across all departments. It involves maintaining optimal inventory levels, locating parts for customers (internal & external) & processing all transactions accurately ensuring the efficient flow of goods and information between departments.

Additionally, the role contributes to business growth by identifying new products, cost savings, and process improvements, while supporting other departments and adhering to company policies and health and safety requirements.

The role primarily consists of:

  • Identifying, sourcing, and allocating marine parts required for all workshop jobs & as well as retail sales of parts & accessories to external customers.
  • Compile prospective customer lists from online or direct enquiries
  • Maintaining in-depth product knowledge of all Hawkes Bay Marine boats, motors, parts & accessories to provide customers with superior technical advice and support while maintaining a knowledge of competitors goods and services and market conditions to remain competitive.
  • Communicating effectively with customers to recommend appropriate goods or services and ensure all sales, services, and enquiries are delivered on time and meet expectations — including prompt follow-up where required
  • Quoting and completing contracts and recording orders for clients to ensure boat and motor sales are recorded correctly and remain competitive
  • Liaising and coordinating with internal and external suppliers to ensure efficient processing of orders, delivery of goods, competitive pricing, and optimal stock turnover.
  • Managing, and maintaining accurate stock control, including ensuring minimum marine stock levels across all departments for maximum operational efficiency.
  • Manage retail point-of-sale transactions, including product allocation and payment processing to ensure sales reports are accurate.
  • Working directly with the workshop team to ensure installation of equipment and provision of services to clients is completed in accordance with sales contracts and follow up with clients to ensure satisfaction, where required.

Hours of work are approximately 40 hrs (Monday – Friday) with some overtime expected during peak season to ensure customer expectations are maintained. This is a salaried role paying between $65,000 - $75,000 per annum depending on the candidate.

This is a busy & demanding role & candidates need to have a positive 'can-do' attitude combined with a minimum of 5 years’ experience of marine motors, parts & accessories sales and/or marine business development experience. A bachelors degree or relevant qualification along with a high level of computer competency is preferred.
