Structural Steel Fabricator Welders

Jensen Steel Fabricators is responsible for the supply, fabrication, coating and installation of structural steel of varied projects across the North Island, and works with with many of New Zealand’s major leading construction companies and key manufacturers.

This position is based in Mount Maunganui and is a great opportunity to be part of a productive team. We offer a competitive pay rate, secure employment, overtime according to programme needs and ongoing training. The pay band for this position is between $25-$35 an hour with 40 hours minimum of work offered. Overtime rates for hours worked over 40 hours can be negotiated.

Fabricator Applicants should have good knowledge of medium-heavy structural steel fabrication. They will be able to read from detailed structural steel drawings and should have appropriate welding tickets.

What you will do

• To provide at all times a level of fabrication and welding that complies with ISO 3834 Part 2, Jensen Steel's Quality Assessment Process, and Project Contractual Obligations.
• Read and accurately interpret drawings
• Fabricate, assemble and weld structural components in the workshop as required.
• Identify and report any drawing discrepancies and other issues that affect production to supervisor/manager immediately.
• Check welds in process and once completed.
• Complete required documentation.
• Daily checking and routine maintenance of equipment.
• Ensure workshop equipment, including cutting, welding and overhead gantry cranes, are used appropriately for each job.

Skills and experience

• Relevant tertiary qualification in a Engineering / Fabrication / Welding discipline; OR
• Minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience
• Must be competent to work unsupervised.
• Welding qualification ANZS2980 (or equivalent)
• Previous experience as a structural steel fabricator.
• Knowledge of ISO3834 standards.

The successful applicant must follow strict quality control procedures and Health and Safety guidelines.

Drug testing is now a normal part of H+S and pre-employment procedure.
