Fabricator/Welder

We’re looking for a skilled Fabricator/Welder to join our team. In this role, you’ll be hands-on — fabricating, welding, and assembling components while making sure all equipment is used safely and correctly. You’ll also help keep the workshop clean, organised, and safe for everyone.

Broadly, your responsibilities will include:

• Maintain work area and equipment in a tidy and safe condition.
• Draw materials from stock and ensure all parts and labour are booked to jobs as appropriate.
• Fabricate, weld and fit components as required.
• General fitting, aluminium sheet metal and steel fabrication, welding with MIG and TIG, pneumatics, hydraulics, pumps, metres etc.
• Ensure safe operation of all equipment in your area to protect yourself and others.
• Review and advise on engineering requirements and drawings where requested.
• Any other duty as may be required commensurate with the grading of the post and the skill of the post holder.

As our successful candidate, you must:

• Must have at least 4 years experience in fabrication and welding.
• Be able to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
• Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Be able to work in a fast-paced environment and meet tight deadlines.
• Have a strong focus on safety and quality.
• Be physically fit and able to lift heavy materials.

You must be able to demonstrate your capabilities. Rather than proving your experience (we are not so much interested in where you have worked), of much more importance to us are your practical capabilities. So if you are selected for an interview, you will be required to undertake practical testing, showing your welding and fabrication expertise.

Hourly rate dependent on experience between $30.00 and $35.00 hourly. This position is based in Hillsborough, Christchurch. The position is 40 hours per week minimum.
