The Opportunity We’re on the lookout for a highly skilled and experienced carpenter to lead our formwork team and help deliver top-tier results across a range of exciting projects.
This role is responsible for overseeing the construction and installation of formwork systems for concrete structures. This role combines hands-on carpentry expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring that formwork is built accurately, safely, and efficiently to support successful concrete pours.
The Lead Formwork Carpenter plays a key role in maintaining quality standards, coordinating team activities, and contributing to the overall success of the division.
Key Priorities
- Lead the formwork team in constructing and installing formwork for foundations, walls, columns, slabs, and other concrete elements.
- Interpret and work from structural and architectural drawings, ensuring formwork is built to specification.
- Plan daily tasks and allocate resources effectively to meet project timelines.
- Operate and supervise the use of carpentry tools, machinery, and formwork systems.
- Ensure all formwork is constructed to high standards of accuracy, safety, and durability.
- Monitor compliance with health and safety regulations and site protocols.
- Collaborate with site managers, engineers, and concrete crews to coordinate pours and sequencing.
- Train and mentor junior carpenters and labourers, fostering a positive and productive team environment.
- Inspect formwork prior to concrete placement and make necessary adjustments or repairs.
Skills & Education
- Minimum of 5 years relevant prior experience in Carpentry or related field.
- Trade qualification in Carpentry or Building (NZQA or equivalent).
- Thorough knowledge of the New Zealand Building Code and its practical application.
- Proven prior hands-on experience working with pod/waffle slab foundations.
- Reliable and consistent attendance with strong work ethic.
- Exceptional eye for detail in all aspects of concrete placement and formwork.
- Self-starter who can work independently and as part of a team.
- Takes pride in workmanship with quality being non-negotiable.
- Current and clean New Zealand Driver’s License.
