Energy Services is a leading civil and electrical contractor specialising in street lighting, sports field lighting and underground power networks across Tauranga. We work with councils, developers, and major utilities to keep the city powered and illuminated. Safety, quality, and reliability are at the heart of everything we do.

The Role
We’re looking for an experienced Class 2 HIAB Operator with proven skills in installing street lights and handling underground cables. You’ll operate truck-mounted cranes (HIAB) to safely lift and position lighting columns, pull underground cables, and support trenching crews. This is a hands-on field role with daily variety and real impact on Tauranga’s infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely operate Class 2 trucks with HIAB crane (Palfinger, Hiab, or similar).
  • Install and replace street light columns
  • Load/unload materials and assist with underground cable pulling
  • Read site plans and follow traffic management plans.
  • Complete daily pre-start checks, paperwork, and liase with customers
  • Work closely with electricians, digger operators, and spotters.
    -Machine operation of excavators & chain trencher

What We’re Looking For

  • Essential:
  • Full Class 2 NZ Driver Licence (clean record).
  • Current HIAB certification (NZQA Unit Standard 16617 or equivalent).
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience operating HIAB on civil/electrical sites.
  • Proven experience standing street lights and underground cable work.
  • Strong understanding of health & safety (Site Safe passport an advantage).
  • Physically fit and comfortable working at heights (EWP ticket a bonus).
  • Desirable:
  • WTR endorsements (Wheels, Tracks, Rollers).
  • Electrical or civil background.
