Mo tatou | About us - What we do Our role at Antarctica New Zealand is to support world-leading science and environmental protection in Antarctica and the Southern Ocean. Scott Base is the hub of New Zealand's activities in Antarctica and each year, we employ seasonal staff to manage base activity and support science in the field.
Mō te mahi | About the role - What you'll be doing
It takes a passionate and highly skilled team to run Scott Base. You will join a diverse and motivated team in the world's most dynamic workplace.
As the Scott Base Electrician, you will be responsible for completing maintenance on all electrical assets at Scott Base. You will ensure operational objectives are met and all electrical systems and work meet the current New Zealand Electrical standards. This role also provides support to visiting scientists and contractors.
Key Responsibilities Include:
- Operation and maintenance of power generation systems and reticulation
- Maintenance and upgrade of electrical equipment and plant as required
- Tagging, testing and certification
- Testing and servicing of fire protection systems
- Using and updating our asset management software system
- Serving on the Scott Base Fire Crew
This is a 13-month deployment through summer and winter seasons from August 2026 to October 2027.

You are a highly motivated individual who enjoys teamwork, a dynamic work environment and is an excellent communicator.
Skills and Experience Include:
- Current New Zealand electrical practicing license valid for at least 13 months
- At least five years post-registration experience in industrial/commercial electrical work
- SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) and BMS (Building Management System)
- Experience with power generation - wind turbines and diesel generators
- Current full NZ Class 1 and ability to drive a manual vehicle
