About the Role
We are currently seeking to employ a Asset Conditions Surveyor to perform asset surveying activities, working to a predefined programme. As part of the Planned Works Team, based in Upper Hutt. The position responsibilities and tasks include:
- Carrying out condition surveys, maintenance activities and testing on a wide variety of distribution and substation network assets including overhead lines and ground mounted equipement.
- Conducting pole strength testing.
- Identifying defects using computer software programmes or check sheets as specified.
- Reporting full defect data including chargeable costs.
- Reporting on job progress.
- Performing additional survey work as required by customers.
- Testing all equipment within the required timeframes and ensuring equipment is in a safe workable condition.
- Understanding and implementing the company health and safety policy and taking reasonable care of own health and safety and the health and safety of others.
- Ensuring that all guards/barriers are securely fixed and that all safety equipment and personal protective clothing/equipment provided are used.
- Reporting any events/incidents as soon as reasonably practical and stopping work and reporting concerns to the immediate supervisor if there are concerns for personal safety.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a thorough knowledge of regulatory and industry requirements pertaining to all prescribed electrical work with 10+ years hands-on experience in Distribution network installation, switching and maintenance. You will require strong verbal and written communication skills, including the writing of reports.

- Estimating, tendering skills, with an ability to be hands-on.
- Sound knowledge of the electrical industry with experience in commercial, industrial and high voltage installations.
- Experience in reading, understanding and reviewing single line drawings and control schematics.
- Knowledge of electrical regulations, industry requirements, contracting procedures and Contract Law.
- Knowledge on tendering: Fixed Price, Lump Sum, Schedule of Rates, Design and Build and Guarantee Maximum Price (GMP).
- Knowledge on different types of specifications: Design and Build, Performance Specification, Standard Specification.
- Computer Skills - Excel.
- Experience in leading technical teams.
- Excellent communication skills at all levels.
