Takapoto Estate is 600 acres of terraced farmland set amongst the beautiful shores of Lake Karapiro. It is home to the award winning Takapoto Angus, Takapoto Wine and also the Takapoto Estate Showjumping arenas. We are seeking a reliable, hardworking, and detail-oriented Groundskeeper to join our team. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who takes pride in maintaining beautiful, safe, and sustainable outdoor environments.
About the Role
As Groundskeeper, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining all areas of the grounds to a high and respectable standard. You will play a key role in ensuring the property is presented at its best year-round.
Key Responsibilities
Maintain landscaped areas including lawn mowing, trimming, edging, blowing, mulching, spraying, weeding, and hedging
Mix and apply herbicides and fungicides safely and effectively
Plant and care for plants prior to planting
Water grounds using portable sprinklers and irrigation systems
Carry out pest control as required
Maintain and improve the sustainability of all grounds and landscaped areas
Upkeep of driveways, boardwalks, parking areas, decks, drainage systems, and other exterior spaces
Prepare grounds for equine shows, including set-up and pack-down of equipment
Service, maintain, and clean machinery and hand tools
Operate lawnmowers, tractors, chainsaws, and other equipment in accordance with competency and safety procedures
Maintain clean, tidy, and safe working areas at all times
Demonstrate safe working practices around all plant and equipment
Maintain strict confidentiality and respect the owner’s privacy
About You
Previous experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a similar role
Competent in operating and maintaining outdoor machinery and equipment
Knowledge of herbicide and fungicide application (appropriate certifications preferred)
Strong understanding of safe work practices
Physically fit and capable of working outdoors in varying weather conditions
Reliable, self-motivated, and able to work independently
Flexible and available to work weekends and varied hours when required
