Description

Te Awamutu Primary School is seeking a new Property Caretaker and Contractor Liaison.

In our opinion a great caretaker understands three core principles;

The neat appearance of the school is imperative and reflects on us all.

Children are at the heart of everything we do.  You need to be able to work in close proximity to 500+ students.

A helpful personality is a necessity. 50 - 60 staff members will ask for help with a huge variety of tasks. You need to be flexible and prepared to help.

If you think you can ‘nail’ these principles, here are some other roles;

  • Pool cleaning, testing and maintenance.
  • Lawn mowing, composting, weedeating, leaf blowing, spraying.
  • Building security and alarm management.
  • Health and Safety checks and related maintenance jobs.
  • Engaging with contractors, e.g arborists, plumbers, electricians, builders, painters etc.
  • Manage property and maintenance budgets.
  • Supervision of existing external contracts, e.g. lawn mowers, rubbish companies etc.
  • Setting up for school events and assemblies.
  • Clearing drains.
  • Waterblasting
  • Moving furniture, relocating classrooms, building flat-pack furniture.
  • Maintaining playgrounds and structures (some basic building required).
  • Unfortunately, our caretaker is required to clean up after the occasional toilet or vomiting accident.
  • You must be able to work in a predominantly female environment and be able to take direction and collaborate with a female Principal.

All school sites are strictly no smoking and no vaping.  Schools are obligated to Police Vet you, even if you have an existing one elsewhere.  Hours of work are 7.45am to 4.45pm with an hour (unpaid) for lunch.  Salary is in accordance with the Caretakers and Cleaners Collective Agreement (that can be found online) but will be at least $25.28 per hour plus allowances. Higher qualifications may result in higher pay.  Applications close on Thursday 30th April 3pm.  A CV and a cover letter introducing yourself should be sent to ***********@taps.school.nz.  Visits welcome, please phone ahead to arrange a time.
