Description

SERVICE TECHNICIAN Location: Based in our Dargaville workshop, working across the Kaipara & Whangarei districts. Employment Type: Full-time (on-farm & workshop) 40 hours per week, with rostered emergency breakdown cover

About Us Northland Farm Services supports dairy, horticulture and rural operations across Northland — from water-management and effluent systems to milking machinery, workshop setups and installation work. With over 25 years’ experience, we pride ourselves on delivering reliable, high-quality service that helps keep farms, food-producers, rural properties, commercial and industrial businesses running smoothly. Our team consists of service technicians, electricians and administration support.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Servicing, maintaining and installing farm equipment, milking systems, water pumps, effluent and irrigation systems.
  • Diagnosing faults, issues and breakages; fault-finding and repairs — both on-site and in our workshop.
  • Assisting with installations, trenching, setting up water-management or effluent systems, pumps, drainage and farm infrastructure.
  • Keeping accurate records of work carried out; completing paperwork, service logs, job cards.
  • Ordering job-specific products
  • Providing great customer service — working closely with farmers, clients and suppliers, offering advice where needed, and helping problem solve.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience working with agricultural machinery, farm equipment, or rural servicing — ideally with mechanical, electrical or hydraulics background.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, ability to work independently and reliably.
  • Good communication and customer-service skills — able to explain issues clearly to farmers and clients.
  • A hands-on, can-do attitude: willing to tackle varied tasks, adapt to changing priorities, and get stuck in on-site or in workshop work.
  • A great sense of humour—because some days, you just have to laugh.
  • Someone who is flexible to cover leave, reliable, consistent & “gets sh*t done”.
  • A valid New Zealand driver’s licence

What’s in It for You

  • Join a well-established, trusted rural services company with strong ties to Northland’s farming community.
  • Variety and challenge — every day is different, with a wide range of equipment and systems to work on.
  • Opportunity to build technical skills across mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems, with ongoing learning as farm technology evolves.
  • Be part of a supportive, down-to-earth team who understand rural life and value quality workmanship and service.
