Description

About the Role We need someone who has solid foundations in traditional locksmithing but isn't intimidated by the electronics change. You'll be working on everything from rekeying conventional cylinders to installing and troubleshooting electronic access control systems, smart lock integration, and automotive programmable security keys. The modern locksmith needs to be as comfortable with a screwdriver as they are with a smartphone, and we're looking for someone who sees this diversification as an opportunity rather than a challenge. This role includes participation in our after-hours call roster, providing emergency services to our established client base.

Essential Requirements

  • Valid full driver's licence
  • Legal right to work in New Zealand
  • Certificate of Approval (COA) for security work, or ability to obtain one
  • Site Safe certification
  • PSPLA certification
  • EWP (Elevated Work Platform) licence
  • Current First Aid certificate

Traditional Skills - The Foundation First and foremost, you must be a competent locksmith with the core mechanical skills. We expect proficiency in cylinder servicing, lock installation and repair, master key system design and implementation, safe servicing, key cutting (including restricted keyways), and door hardware installation. You should be confident working with commercial-grade hardware, understanding door closers, panic hardware, and the mechanical aspects that still form the backbone of our industry. The ability to diagnose mechanical lock problems, work precisely with hand tools, and understand security grading standards is essential.

Electronic Adaptation - The Future Beyond your traditional skill set, we need someone who has kept pace with industry changes and understands that clients increasingly expect electronic solutions alongside conventional hardware. Experience with access control systems, electronic locks, or security integration is highly valued. You should be comfortable reading technical documentation, following wiring diagrams, and learning new systems as manufacturers continue to innovate.

What We Offer

  • Salary: $75,000+ depending on experience and electronic capability
  • Vehicle: 2024 Toyota van for work use
  • Mobile phone provided
  • Training opportunities to keep your skills current as technology evolves
  • Join an established team of seven professionals led by a Master Locksmith with 30 years in the industry
  • Solid growth trajectory with significant commercial contracts We're experiencing genuine business growth and invest in our people's development as technology continues to reshape what we do. If you're a qualified locksmith who's excited about where the industry is heading rather than clinging to where it's been, we'd like to hear from you.
