About the role:
Becoming an Animal Control Officer is a unique and challenging role that requires a combination of skills, education, and personal attributes. If you have love for animals, enjoy helping people and can handle stressful situations and meet our requirements, then this Animal Control Officer role may be right for you.
We have an exciting opportunity to earn extra income while working as an Animal Control Officer across Rangiora - North Canterbury region!
This is a casual, on-call position with shifts as follows: Monday to Friday, 4:30pm–8:30am; Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays, 4:30pm–8:00am or 8:00am–6:00pm.
Note:
Weekend on-call duties are typically divided into two distinct shifts; however, candidates interested in covering a full 24-hour period are encouraged to submit an application. A full 24-hour shift earns two on-call payments. This results in 9 on-call periods per week in the roster.
Mandatory Requirements:
To progress through the recruitment process, you must consent to and be able to satisfy pre-employment checks, including:
- Currently are based in North Canterbury and able to respond locally
- Hold a current Certificate of Approval (COA) or ability to obtain one
- Possess a valid Full NZ Driver’s License.
- Demonstrate willingness to participate in an on-call roster as required.
- Exhibit flexibility regarding working hours, including availability for nights and weekends.
- Display confidence in both independent work and collaborative team environments.
- Maintain strong communication abilities and composure while under pressure.
Our Ideal Candidate:
- Experience in dog handling and animal behaviour
- First Aid Certificate
- NZ Certificate in Regulatory Compliance (Core Knowledge) (Level 3) preferred.
- Previous experience liaising with SPCA, NZ Police, DOC, community groups, and local Iwi.
