We take a balanced and community-focused approach that allows us to strive with consideration on behalf of our district. ABOUT THE ROLE - NGĀ ĀHUATANGA O TE TŪRANGA

This newly created Shift Engineer position strengthens the delivery of safe, reliable drinking water across the Taupō District. Working a 4‑days‑on / 4‑days‑off, 12‑hour shift roster, you will be responsible for the day‑to‑day operational performance of our Water Treatment Plants and Pump Stations.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Operating, monitoring, and maintaining water treatment equipment, systems, and pump stations to ensure continuous compliant water production.
  • Diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults and responding promptly to alarms and call‑outs.
  • Monitoring SCADA and telemetry systems, analysing trends, and adjusting operations to maintain compliance.
  • Ensuring all treatment processes meet Drinking Water Standards, Taumata Arowai Quality Assurance Rules, and Resource Consent requirements.
  • Working closely with operators, maintenance teams, and contractors to plan and deliver work safely and effectively.
  • Supporting project and renewals work, including commissioning and optimisation of new plant and equipment.
  • Maintaining accurate operational and asset records to support compliance and business continuity.

This is a hands‑on operational role ideally suited to someone who thrives in a technical environment, enjoys variety, and wants to contribute directly to the delivery of essential water services for our community.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR - KEI TE KIMI MĀTOU I TĒNEI MOMO TANGATA

We're looking for someone with strong mechanical and/or electrical aptitude who can confidently troubleshoot faults, analyse treatment processes, and carry out effective maintenance in a live operational environment. You'll be comfortable using SCADA and telemetry systems, interpreting operational data to support compliance and minimise faults.

You will be safety‑focused, proactive, and quality‑driven. Collaboration is essential, and you'll build strong working relationships with operators, the Renewals & Maintenance team, the Automation Engineer, and contractors.

We're after a team member who communicates clearly, keeps accurate records, and contributes to continuous improvement. A willingness to learn, adaptability in a fast‑changing operational environment, and a commitment to delivering safe, compliant drinking water are key to success in this role.
