Why can't I use these templates?

If you’re using trademe.co.nz to create your listings we haven’t yet added support for these templates. This is because they’re designed for our Professional Sellers who are mostly using other channels to list. You can use our free Pro Seller listing tool My Products to create listings with Shipping Templates at https://sell.trademe.co.nz

If you’re using a 3rd party integrator or other system to create your listings on Trade Me, it’s likely they haven’t yet adopted the change. We encourage you to reach out to your provider and let them know you would like them to implement the new templates in their platform.

Why are these templates strict and don’t allow any free text?

As a marketplace, we represent lots of different sellers and buyers. Each Seller providing a different set of text for their shipping options is often confusing for buyers. We believe shipping options should be easy to understand and clearly state the cost & when the buyer can expect to receive the item.

The strict structure lets us reliably show this key information into the buyer journey on Trade Me, from search through to when the buyer purchases the item.

How do I stop rural buyers from selecting non-rural shipping options?

We've added a range of new non-rural courier products under “Other” carriers (formerly called Generic). If a seller uses these products it will display as non-rural to buyers.

We’re looking at more ways to personalise the shipping experience to better match rural shipping options to rural buyers for listings that use our new templates.

I have multiple quantities of items, the shipping templates don’t support this, what can I do?

We’re encouraging Sellers who are currently offering multiple quantity shipping options to simplify their offering and consider adding a paid combined shipping option to their shipping template.

The Shipping Templates aren’t friendly for freight and bulky items?

We understand that freight is a complex area in New Zealand, especially when it comes to residential delivery. We’ve investigated multiple ways to better cater for our sellers freight needs. It's an area we would like to improve and will continue to explore.

We’ve added a range of freight carrier options to the templates and encourage you to use some of the carrier products under “Other” when your option isn’t available. At this stage we're unable to cater for more complex scenarios. If your freight & bulky shipping options are unable to fit into a Shipping Template we encourage you to use the shipping to be arranged option.

I ship all my goods within hours and on the same day, why do I need to enter a handling time in business days?

That’s great! We love it when our sellers are doing their best to make the buying experience awesome. We use the handling & cut off times to calculate the estimated shipping time frame for buyers. This is just an estimate of when the buyer can expect to receive the item.

We know we have work left to do to further improve how we use the cut off time to highlight Sellers that are shipping the same day. Over time we will be improving our calculation of these time estimates to factor this in.
