THE OPPORTUNITY

Looking to take that next step in your career - if you’re an experienced shepherd, passionate about farming and want a role where you can grow your skills, contribute to a small and supportive team, and enjoy real variety every day, this could be the perfect next step for you.

Your work will be hands-on and varied, including:

  • Livestock/pasture management and animal health care
  • Feed budgeting – working closely with the Farm Manager
  • General farm maintenance and fencing
  • Maintaining records and ensuring environmental compliance

THE FARM

Nestled just 20 minutes from Whitianga on the beautiful Coromandel Peninsula, Whenuakite Farm spans 520 effective hectares and operates efficient bull systems (permanent) - without the need for supplementary feeding. This approach reflects our commitment to sustainable, pasture-based farming.

Beyond the farm gates, you’ll discover an exceptional lifestyle. The area is renowned for its stunning beaches, scenic walking tracks, and a wealth of outdoor recreation opportunities, all within easy reach. It’s the perfect setting for those who value both rewarding work and a vibrant, active lifestyle.

ABOUT YOU

You may already be a senior shepherd, or you might be looking for that next step in your career, either way you’re someone who cares about farming, enjoys working with animals, and wants to be part of a team that supports one another and strives for great results.

You will:

  • Enjoy working with livestock and make animal welfare a priority
  • Ideally bring a team of working dogs
  • Be organised, reliable, and self-motivated
  • Communicate clearly and work well in a team environment
  • Be comfortable keeping accurate records and using farm technology (or keen to learn)
  • Take pride in safety, wellbeing, and caring for farm assets
  • Hold a valid restricted or full driver licence

At Pāmu, we value diverse perspectives and welcome applications from people who share our values - even if you don’t meet every single requirement.

BENEFITS

We offer a competitive salary package, with wellbeing and family-friendly benefits such as enhanced parental leave, health and life insurance benefits, and up to 4% KiwiSaver matching. You'll also receive an extra day of leave over Christmas, plus ongoing training and development.

This opportunity comes with a warm two-bedroom home with a new double garage.

APPLY NOW

Applications close at midnight on Sunday 26 April 2026, we will be speaking with candidates as they apply.

If you have any questions, please contact Alister Smith, Farm Manager on (027) 241-7726 or smitha@landcorp.co.nz.

Pamu - Landcorp

Pāmu is a recognised leader not only in New Zealand’s agricultural sector, but around the world where our farming practices are studied and emulated. Pāmu stands for best practice in sustainable and safe farming, and for the unique provenance of New Zealand foods, nutrition products and fibre on global markets.

Our Story

Pāmu is the brand name for Landcorp Farming Limited. We chose the Māori word ‘Pāmu’ not just for its literal meaning ‘to farm’ but also to reflect the Māori concept of guardianship of the environment (kaitiakitanga).

Landcorp Farming Limited is a State-Owned Enterprise with a nationwide portfolio of farms that produce milk, beef, lamb, wool, venison, wood and more. Pāmu strives to be a leader in New Zealand agriculture, carefully creating natural products of high quality.

Our Values

Grounded: We are proud guardians of our land and our animals, and we are grounded in our connections with these; our proactive protection of the environment ensures a prosperous future for now and for generations to come.

Genuine: We are genuine, always keeping it real, considering our neighbours and our impact; we are easy to engage with and we always deliver what we commit to.

Bold: We are bold in our vision, not afraid of the new; always growing and improving for a sustainable future in farming.

Shoulder-to-shoulder: We work together, shoulder-to-shoulder, united as a team to ensure each other’s safety and wellbeing; we bring out the best in each other and the communities we work in.
