We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join a leading Tier 1 commercial construction contractor with a strong track record delivering landmark projects across New Zealand and internationally. Known for taking on complex, large scale builds, the business operates across sectors including commercial, infrastructure, and high value vertical construction. Based in Christchurch, this role will see you working on major commercial projects, playing a key role in securing and pricing technically challenging and high profile work. For the right candidate, relocation assistance is available, and we are also open to candidates based in Auckland who are willing to travel. You will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive tenders, analysing project documentation, and working closely with project managers, suppliers, and subcontractors to develop detailed cost estimates. This role requires strong exposure to large scale construction, with the ability to understand complex staging, methodologies, and risk profiles.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing detailed cost estimates and tender submissions for large scale commercial projects
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, and contract documentation
- Conducting quantity take offs and pricing materials, labour, and subcontract packages
- Liaising with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing
- Identifying risks and opportunities within tender documentation
- Supporting value engineering and alternative construction methodologies
- Assisting with cost planning and budget development
- Maintaining estimating systems, benchmarks, and historical cost data
About You
- Proven experience as an Estimator within commercial construction in New Zealand
- Demonstrated exposure to large scale projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methodology and large scale project delivery
- Ability to interpret drawings, specifications, and contracts
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Proficiency in estimating software and Excel
