Job DescriptionIn this vital role as Health, Safety Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) Advisor you’ll be responsible for providing functional support, assistance and advisory services to operating units to ensure management and workers are aware of their obligations in relation to quality systems and statutory compliance relating to HSEQ. You’ll assist Branch Managers and where required Regional Managers in the development, implementation, monitoring and review of the Integrated HSEQ Management System processes relevant to their operating unit.
What You’ll Do
- Develop & Maintain: Implement HSEQ policies, procedures, and management systems to ensure compliance and best practices across all sites.
- Audit & Assess: Conduct audits, inspections, and risk assessments to identify hazards and drive continuous improvement.
- Train & Advise: Deliver training and provide expert guidance to all employees, championing a culture of safety and responsibility.
- Investigate & Improve: Lead investigations into incidents and near-misses, providing actionable recommendations to prevent recurrence.
- Report & Analyse: Monitor HSEQ performance, prepare insightful reports, and drive data-backed decisions with leadership.
- Collaborate & Influence: Work cross-functionally to integrate HSEQ considerations into daily operations and strategic decision-making.
- Stay Ahead: Keep up with evolving regulations and standards, ensuring WM New Zealand remains a leader in HSEQ compliance.
Qualifications What We’re Looking For
- A Tertiary Qualification (National certificate or diploma) in H&S or Environmental Science.
- 3-5 years of experience in a similar H&S role (preferably within the waste management or related industry).
- A strong background in risk management and the ability to manage change effectively.
- In-depth knowledge of HSE, ACC, and HSNO legislation and standards.
- Familiarity with Integrated Management Systems (ISO 9001, 14001, 45001).
- Strong communication and presentation skills — able to engage and influence at all levels.
- A keen eye for detail with excellent analytical, conceptual, and research skills.
- Great time management and the ability to self-manage in a fast-paced environment.
- Legally entitled to work in New Zealand.
