Description
Leading Hand / Senior operator is required to run a small crew on site, combining hands‑on machine work with planning, quality,and safety oversight. The role reports to the company senior owner / directors of Kawatiri Energy Ltd Lake Rochfort Hydro Power Scheme as part of an upgrade program. Duties and Requirements:
- Lead, direct, and mentor a small crew of operators and labourers, allocating tasks and monitoring performance day to day.
- Oversee, coordinate plant and often operate Excavators, Loaders, ADT’s and Compactors for placement of Bulk Rock.
- Interpret plans, set out ,ensure completed levels, compaction, and completed grades
- Adjust methods when ground conditions, or weather impact production or stability.
- Ensure site safety procedures are met with regular toolbox talks with the site safety manager to identify hazards before they cause incidents.
- High‑level operating skills plus strong leadership and communication, acting as the link between crew and management.
- Solid understanding of civil construction methods incl. earthworks, transport, bulk rock fill placement & compaction along with productivity rates for different plant.
- Relevant heavy licenses, and proven experience in civil/earthworks rather than formal degrees.
- High level of mechanical skills that will ensure servicing and repairs are carried out correctly and regularly onsite.
Machinery onsite: 33/35t Komatsu Excavators and attachments including a broad range of Rock Breakers and Buckets,12t & 3t Excavators and Buckets, 40t HM400 Komatsu ADTs, 3.5m3 Wheel Loader, Komatsu BR380 JG-1Crusher,15t Self Propelled Roller. Q Power generators and submersible pumps to drain Lake Rochfort prior to bulk rock filling.
The Project is to strengthen the original Lake Rochfort dam that was constructed in the 1880s by Gold miners The project will take some 9 months to complete. Ongoing work after completion may be available.
