About the Role:
We are seeking an experienced Radio Technician to support the delivery, maintenance, and optimisation of critical radio and communications systems within the electricity distribution environment. This role works closely with Project Managers, Engineers, and field teams to ensure safe, compliant, and reliable communications infrastructure that supports network operations.
Role Responsibilities:
The role supports Project Managers and Design Estimators with estimating, pre-work scoping, and the development and review of work methodologies. This includes participating in job handover and close-out activities, undertaking job pre-planning, job briefs, and risk assessments, and reviewing job requirements such as materials, plant, contractors, labour availability, and scheduling to ensure alignment with the approved scope of work. The role also involves undertaking site visits to monitor progress, verify compliance with design and scope, and assess quality and completeness of works. Responsibilities include ensuring accurate and timely completion of field documentation, reports, GIS data, asset records, as-built information, and all required testing and commissioning. The role participates in job reviews and continuous improvement initiatives, supports switching or outage activities as required, and consistently promotes Health, Safety, Quality, and Environmental (HSQE) standards in line with legislative and organisational requirements.
Skills & Experience:
-Minimum two years' experience in the New Zealand electricity industry, ideally within distribution systems
-Experience with radio, telecommunications, or network communications systems in utility environments
-Knowledge of LV and HV distribution networks and zone substations (desirable)
-Proven experience in planning and delivery of technical jobs or projects
-Demonstrated leadership capability and ability to work independently in the field
-Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
-Ability to plan, organise, and prioritise workloads (own and team)
-Strong commitment to safety and ability to promote a positive safety culture
-Computer literacy in Microsoft Word and Excel (minimum entry level)
-Excellent communication skills (verbal and written)
-Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural environment
