Maintenance Engineer / Toolmaker / Fabricator

Location: Porirua, Wellington Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday (7:00am – 4:30pm) Pay: Competitive hourly rate + overtime opportunities Type: Permanent

About the Role We’re looking for a skilled and hands-on Maintenance Engineer / Toolmaker / Fabricator to join our busy engineering team. In this role, you’ll be responsible for maintaining and manufacturing production tooling, supporting machinery maintenance and repairs, and implementing process and safety improvements across our modern factory. If you’re a practical problem solver who enjoys variety in your day from precision machining to machinery repairs and process improvements, this could be the ideal next step in your career.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Maintain and manufacture production tooling using both manual lathe/mill and CNC machining equipment
  • Carry out repairs and preventative maintenance on factory machinery
  • Assist with breakdowns to minimise downtime
  • Identify and deliver safety and process improvements across the site
  • Collaborate with production teams to troubleshoot and resolve quality issues
  • Support the factory manager with maintenance scheduling and improvement projects

What We’re Looking For

  • A solid general engineering background or trade qualification (e.g. Fitter-Welder, Toolmaker, Maintenance Engineer)
  • Strong machining skills (manual lathe/mill essential; CNC experience a bonus)
  • Proven fabrication and MIG welding ability
  • A proactive attitude to safety, quality, and efficiency
  • Ability to work independently, troubleshoot effectively, and take ownership of your work

Hours Monday to Friday, 7:00am – 4:30pm (45 hours per week, with occasional overtime when needed).
